King’s Commonwealth PhD Fellowship (KCFP)

For researchers and professionals in Small Island Developing States (SIDS)

Goal:
Support future leaders in climate, education, engineering, and health by helping them earn a PhD in their home country while working — with support from universities in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the UK.


Who Can Apply?

You must:

  • Have a Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Be starting or already enrolled in a PhD program in your home country (SIDS) for the 2025/26 academic year.
  • Be a citizen or have refugee status in a Commonwealth SIDS country.
  • Your PhD must focus on one of these areas:
    • Climate change / Environment
    • Education
    • Engineering
    • Health

What You’ll Receive:

  • £30,000 over 6 years for research + travel to partner university (Australia, Canada, NZ, UK).
  • £12,000 research grant (£2,000/year).
  • 20% salary contribution to your employer over 6 years.
  • Joint supervision: one from your home university, one from a partner university.
  • Access to resources (e.g. libraries, databases) at the partner university.
  • Professional development training: skills like public speaking, policy, entrepreneurship, funding applications.

Study Setup:

  • You stay and work in your home country.
  • Enrolled in a local PhD program.
  • Travel occasionally to the partner university for training and research support.
