King’s Commonwealth PhD Fellowship (KCFP)
For researchers and professionals in Small Island Developing States (SIDS)
Goal:
Support future leaders in climate, education, engineering, and health by helping them earn a PhD in their home country while working — with support from universities in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the UK.
Who Can Apply?
You must:
- Have a Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Be starting or already enrolled in a PhD program in your home country (SIDS) for the 2025/26 academic year.
- Be a citizen or have refugee status in a Commonwealth SIDS country.
- Your PhD must focus on one of these areas:
- Climate change / Environment
- Education
- Engineering
- Health
What You’ll Receive:
- £30,000 over 6 years for research + travel to partner university (Australia, Canada, NZ, UK).
- £12,000 research grant (£2,000/year).
- 20% salary contribution to your employer over 6 years.
- Joint supervision: one from your home university, one from a partner university.
- Access to resources (e.g. libraries, databases) at the partner university.
- Professional development training: skills like public speaking, policy, entrepreneurship, funding applications.
Study Setup:
- You stay and work in your home country.
- Enrolled in a local PhD program.
- Travel occasionally to the partner university for training and research support.
